Black Liberation through the Marketplace

This 2-hour professional development webinar is designed for secondary social studies educators. The event provides a unique opportunity to engage with your fellow educators and gain new insights into teaching important, but often challenging topics in US History, US Government, Civics, & Economics classrooms.

During the webinar, you’ll hear a content overview from Dr. Marcus Witcher, based on chapters from his latest book, Black Liberation through the Marketplace. He will guide us through several historical accounts of black individuals and communities utilizing the market as a tool for social liberation, and analyze the pushback they received from state governments actively working to deny Constitutional rights to black Americans. We will then take a walk down Black Wall Street, looking at several primary sources to learn about the individuals and families who lived and worked to build a thriving, growing Black community in Tulsa, OK and about the work done to rebuild after the Tulsa Race Massacre.

As a participant, you will receive 2 hours of professional development credit, a classroom lesson plan that includes a classroom activity & discussion guide, and a copy of Dr. Witcher’s book.

THREE teachers will also be randomly selected to receive a $25 Amazon Gift Card!
